Three days before the second round of elections, and two days before the start of electoral silence, Slobodna Dalmacija published results of a poll conducted by Split Law School students led by Professor (and former mayor) Onesin Cvitan. The poll - conducted on the sample of 1038 potential voters, tell a convincing story about Željko Kerum's victory over SDP candidate Ranko Ostojić. Kerum would win 60.5 percent, Ostojić 34.3 percent, while there are still 5.2 percent undecided voters.
The poll, however, should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Sample was not completely representative - all Split neighbourhoods, regardless of population, had euqal number of interviewees, while the poll didn't take into account margin of error.
The same pollsters did even shoddier job when inquiring about next governor of Split-Dalmatian County. According to the poll, current governor Ante Sanader can expect 50.7 percent, while SDP candidate Veljan Radojković can expect 34.9 percent. However, all interviews were conducted only in City of Split, while ignoring the rest of County (which traditionally votes for HDZ and right-wing parties). Cvitan and his team explain this with "financial limitations" of their poll.
