Just as I have predicted on this blog, Lidija Šunjerga's candidacy for mayor of Kaštela - which brought more international publicity to Croatian May 17th elections than any other person or event - turned out to be fairytale extinguished by real life. Croatian State Election Commission site brings data from Kaštela. According to them Šunjerga in the race for mayor won 453 out of 13.719 votes, ending on 4th place with 3.3 % and thus failing to qualify to second round. Mayor of Kaštela will be either HDZ candidate Ivan Udovičić (40.91 %) or independent candidate Josip Berket (39.62 %).
Other data from Split-Dalmatian County also point that Kerum in Split wasn't anomaly. Other independent candidates also fared well, especially Pjerino Bebić in Hvar (47.26 %) who would have to compate with SDP candidate Ranko Avelini.
