Yesterday
Croatian television showed first episode of Croatian version of Survivor. I
watched only glimpses and I can say with some certainty that I won’t be able to
cover this reality show in the same manner I had covered Big Brother Croatia.
Nor would I feel inclined to. Nor would Croatian public show the same
enthusiasm.
Biggest
problem for Survivor is going to be Croatian audience’s familiarity with the
American version of the show, which had been aired on Nova TV in past few
years. Any comparisons between American and Croatian version are going to be
against the latter. Mljet, dubbed “Island of Ulysses” by the show’s producers
is beautiful setting, but it is less exotic than those featured in American
shows. The cast is less attractive, less diverse – 13 out of 18 participants
are from Zagreb – and less interesting.
Judging
by the comments in Croatian Usenet forums, most people speculate that ex porn
star Lidija Šunjerga (Lidija Sunjerga) got into the show only to provide extra
publicity and prevent four attractive fashion models from being voted out in
the first rounds.
